PARKING LOT AND DRIVEWAY SAFETY
Every year, agents around the country are threatened, robbed, physically or sexually assaulted while fulfilling the everyday requirements of their jobs. Some even lose their lives. Below are our top tips for parking and making a quick getaway should the need arise.Â
HAVE KEYS READY
Never stand next to your car searching through your purse. Robbers, car-jackers, and sexual predators watch for this type of distraction.Â
ONCE IN YOUR CAR LOCK THE DOORS IMMEDIATELY
GET MOVING
Don't sit inside your vehicle adjusting the stereo, rummaging through shopping bags, your purse or pockets, or talking on your phone especially if the lot is not well populated or lit.Â
ONLY UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR
If you have an unlocking button or keyless entry system, make sure you unlock only the driver door. Unlocking all doors allows a predator to simply slide into your car from the passenger side.Â
DOME LIGHT
Make sure that your dome light is always functioning properly. As you unlock your vehicle at night glance into the back seat and make sure that an attacker has not gained access to your car.Â
KEY FOB
If you are in a parking lot looking for your car, don't keep hitting the key fob to listen for the beep. A predator could also be listening and beat you to the car.
PARK OUT FRONT
When showing a property never let yourself get boxed in with a car behind you in case you need to make a quick exit. Parking in front of the house is usually the safest option.Â
